It's mostly OK, though it does have problems:- There's no way to control the Voice volume. No matter how much I reduced the Music or Sound Effect volume, I never could hear the actual voices (which is pretty bad since that's how you get your objectives).- Movement is pretty clunky. You can either crouch walk or walk normally (i.e., it's slow). There is a jump function, but it really isn't very useful.- Weapon handling is definitely clunky. Reloading takes place when the game feels like it and takes quite a long time. Aiming has an excess of wobble. Using a grenade is so awkward that you avoid using them. Some of the weapons seem to use the same representation (so you can't tell what weapon you're actually using). The weapon-swap animations are so slow as to be ridiculous.- The story is pretty darn hokey and implausible. The big problem is that the current list price of this mostly mediocre game is almost $25 and it takes only about 11 hours to complete the campaign. I'm currently at 73% for getting all the Achievements (24 out of 33). But, the remaining ones are all online or grinding Achievements (which the game isn't good enough to make me want to put in the effort to get). I bought the game on sale at about $11 and I still don't feel it was worth it. As I write this, it's on sale for about $6. At that price, it might be worth a try for you. But, otherwise, I'm not recommending it.. Bought this game many years ago on DVD but never really got round to completing it.This redux version seems to have a few more cut scenes from what I remember and improved graphics. Will definitely be playing this to completion.Best part is that it's working wonderfully on Linux using Proton 4.2-3.Thanks Valve for Steam Play and Rebellion for bringing back some fond memories of an oldie I enjoyed.. i never played the original but this is good old classic TPS corridor game and i really like it... better than most of those online, coop, social, mmo, open world bs games that we have to play these days..... Purchased this game because it had On-line co-op and wanted to run through the campaign with a friend. Unfortunately it us only co-op for specific scenes, pre-campaign, note that it's only like 5 missions. It is NOT full story co-op. The game as is has better graphics than the orignal which I played through on the PC when I bought it as a box game. I can still recommend the game and the story. Enjoy it for what its, but don't expect much from co-op.. So the graphic is not that good I was expecting for. Realy beautiful looks only Quartz zone massacre, Nu Paree, (whateverthe♥♥♥♥) forest and Qxark mountains. Animation with this graphic level looks bad. Enemies are stupid. Gameplay tweaks are a bit useless (They should have done a "sprint" function for character, instead of useless aiming function and auto-leaning to cover). They DID change models and textures, but water still looks terrible. In trailer they said:-"higher level geometry", what was not made in every level. Remodeled characters not that good also, I'm rather sticking to the old ones (GIs). Well, almost wasted potential, even though you can still enjoy this game. Waiting for sequel, and hoping, it will be better.. 3.6 hours to complete, Huh?For some reason it felt like 8 or a heck of a lot more…Thing that you need to take into consideration when looking at this remaster is that Rogue Trooper, originally, wasn’t that much of a “good” game neither. It was a very “niche”, or “cult” type of game, with a similarly “niche”, or “cult” videogame audience.Everything ranging from the combat to the cover system, to even something as rudimentary in games as it would be the switching of your weapons, feels sluggish. The universe is fantastic, I love the atmosphere, and appreciate the story, as cheesy as it is.The aesthetic is fantastic, and the graphical improvements are noticeable, then again, the original game got released in 2006, it wouldn’t really have taken that much on the developers part to improve on the original graphics.Plus, the improvements are generally inconsistent really…Sometimes the lighting looks fantastic, other times it looks flat, the textures look incredibly detailed in the main protagonist model, but not necessarily in the enemies, generally though, the textures look rather poorly for the vast majority of the surfaces, in the vast majority of the game, its like the developers simply gave up, and as end result for the first couple of levels everything seems significantly improved over the original, even up to par with some older releases in recent years, but not necessarily with actual ones.Probably what I resent the most is that this was a great opportunity to improve on a lot of the aspects of the game design, they should have, in my opinion, improve severely on the combat system, and the cover system. In regards with the cover system, now they’ve made it sort of like a “Snap-On” mechanic. So, you just have to approach a wall and automatically the player will take cover, it’s incredibly buggy tho, so there are times in which the character would snap to “lower covers” but it wouldn’t crouch, keeping his lower half, in, cover but with half his back outside of it.Other times it would just get stuck halfway, and after a while, by itself, it would get out of it.But the combat it’s probably the worst offender, in the original as well as in this one.The gunplay feels terrible, it never feels as if any of your shots are really getting anywhere, even if you’re hitting the enemy, other times the enemies take a ton of damage, a ton of hits to kill, making the game a chore to play, and an incredibly tedious experience for the most part, there are times in which sometimes you feel as it is the recoil of your weapon causing this, other times if you aim outside of your enemies you end up getting hits, other times you don’t.There’s just this amass of inconsistency propagated in most of the aspects of the game.Even then, me, personally, enjoy it.I can’t really describe why, I guess I just appreciate the “feel” of it, maybe because I like the universe so much, that’s why I bought the game, that’s why I played the original game a couple of weeks ago in preparation for this one.But I can’t recommend the game, because its a terrible game, it’s a… “Bearable” experience, sure it is, but it shouldn’t have to be, a game shouldn’t have to be a chore to play through it.So as much as I can say it was a fine time to play through it personally, I can’t recommend it with good conscience.Buy it if you’re a fan of the Rogue Trooper series as a whole, buy it if you enjoy the original game. But if you’re simply curious about it, or relatively interested in it, I would suggest to wait for a deep, deep, sale, even if the launch price isn’t that expensive to begin with, you’ll thank me later, even if I personally don’t regret buying it, nor playing it.. For having very fond memories of the original, I bought this without hesitation.Looks REALLY good, but then when I was supposed to start controlling Rogue. The mousecontrols makes it unplayable. Crazy acceleration and huge difference in X and Y sensitivity.Leaving this review until developer recognizes and responds to community feedback.
